Green Manufacturing By Singapore

Minister of Singapore for the Environment and Resources of water Dr Vivan Balakrishnan has begin a new training programme of green manufacturing sector for republic.


At the annual awards for environmental excellence in Singapore (ELSA), where five local organizations were commended for their efforts in sustainability, said Dr Balakrishnan, the new initiative to disseminate essential knowledge to help a large number of professionals within the industry.

The program is developed jointly by the Federation Singapore manufacturing (ADM) and the Workforce Development Agency (WDA).
Companies will be eligible for a tax deduction of 400 percent of training costs under the government of productivity and innovation tax credit.

ADM said the new three-unit program "Implementation of sustainable production," helps managers evaluate and improve the sustainability of their operations and supply chains, through a series of courses on production.
The course will be offered until the end of this year and is expected to involve about 200 experts from more than two years.

SMa President George Huang said the association provides training to its members in 2800 to promote, improve productivity and their carbon footprint at the same time.

"We hope that our cause our members and to inspire others to do more for the environmental cause," he added.

Huang noted that its ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is now a basic requirement in producing international arena, and the buyers wanted to see that environmental policy is in force. "Being Green is a requirement," he said.

Last month, celebrated the achievements of the SMA and WDA Certified and Innovation Centre (IPC) program, a project under the initiative of leadership coaching to manufacture world-class Lean Six Sigma and operational standards.
The average increase in productivity for the ten participating companies in the system was about 15 percent six months.
The CPI currently has 35 members and is well on the way to its goal of 50 members from more than two years.

Dr Balakrishnan said at the ceremony, held at the Shangri-La, that businesses face a shortage of resources in the near future and that companies differ in a sustainable competitive advantage is on those who do not have to be.

He also congratulated the other winners, including Temasek Polytechnic (TP), which won the Best Director Award for his contributions in the service sector.
